H-F Carbonitrided (16- Prefix)
The Carbonitrided barrel is made from a low carbon
steel that is carbonitrided on the inside surface only to increase the
carbon content. It is then induction hardened on the inside surface to
achieve a surface hardness of HRC 60 minimum for .005" depth per
side and precision honed and threaded. The core and outside surface still
retain their lower hardness, strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance.
An advantage of the H-F Carbonitrided barrel is that it is not a coating
which can flake off. It is a treatment of the barrel's inside surface
that can only wear off, since the inside hard material treatment is an
integral part of the barrel. It is recommended for moderate or severe
abrasion in mild to moderate corrosive environments. The minimum yield
strength is 75,000 psi.
