Model L
The Johnson-Fagg Model L Stuffing Box
is a dual packing stuffing box with a unique method of closing the
lower packing to hold back well pressure during replacement of the
upper packing. The upper packing is a standard, interchangeable industry
design while the lower packing is a special full circle rubber "H"
packing that is closed by application of pressure through the use
of a standard grease gun. Pressure from the grease gun is applied
to the lower "H" packing to seal off the well pressure,
then after the upper packing is replaced, the lower "H"
packing pressure is released by pushing on the pressure relief valve
with a pocketknife or screwdriver. The "H" packing automatically
retracts and the well can be restarted.
